Film at Lincoln Center announced on May 4, 2026 the launch of the new FILM COMMENT digital magazine. Film Comment was founded in 1962. The publication is debuting a subscription-based quarterly digital publication with a redesigned website, digital features, reviews, interviews, regular columns, podcast episodes in-depth reporting from top festivals, and more.
The inaugural Summer 2026 issue features a cover story on Boots Riley's highly anticipated new film, I Love Boosters, accompanied by an interview with Riley for Film Comment's weekly podcast. The issue also includes a feature on Lucrecia Martel's Our Land and an interview with the filmmaker; a profile of Michaela Coel, star of recent releases The Christophers and Mother Mary; an essay by Jonathan Rosenbaum reflecting on his columns for Film Comment from the 1970s; and the return of FC's Critics' Grid, where contributors rate new releases. Additional articles and podcasts will be added weekly to quarterly issues until the next issue launches.
"At Film Comment, we believe in the value of film criticism—as a means of making sense of a fraught world through its images, and as an essential conduit to beauty and originality," said Co-Editor Devika Girish. "Our new digital magazine is gorgeous, affordable, and sustainable; it ensures that Film Comment remains a bastion for truly independent, nonprofit criticism. And what better way to kick it off than with a cover story on the new Boots Riley film!"
"Our vision foregrounds the thoughtful, rigorous approach to film writing that has characterized the magazine since its inception in 1962, while leveraging the up-to-the-minute flexibility of digital publishing," said Co-Editor Clinton Krute. "Plus, subscribers can access the beautiful and intuitive new digital archive, truly a treasure trove for cinephiles."
