My Mom Jayne: A Film by Mariska Hargitay is an HBO original. The documentary film about Mariska's mom Jayne Mansfield was executive produced by Lauran Bromley, produced by Mariska Hargitay and Trish Adlesic, and in her feature film directorial debut, directed by Mariska Hargitay.
The film takes you on the journey of Mariska attempting to find out who her mother was as she has no real memory of her. Mariska's mom Jayne Mansfield died in a car accident when Mariska was only 3 years old. Mariska’s direction in the film is fantastic as she explores Jayne with the help of her fans and those close to her mom. Hargitay captures and shows us both pieces of her private and public legacy.
Her family was hesitant to participate in the documentary, but gave their blessing for her project by agreeing to appear in the film. Hargitay stated, "This movie is a labor of love and longing. It's a search for the mother I never knew, an integration of a part of myself I'd never owned, and a reclaiming of my mother's story and my own truth."
The awards season kicks off soon from the Gothams, to Spirit, DGA, PGA, and SAG Awards, to the biggies, the Golden Globes and of course the Oscars. With that, My Mom Jayne had a special screening on September 21 at the Crosby Street Hotel for a group comprised of guild and union members, industry organizations, and press. The audience that night expressed moments of laughter and many times throughout the documentary film, audible crying.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 78 on May 17, 2025 and won The Golden Eye, the Documentary Prize. The film then went on to screen at the Tribeca Festival on June 13. In the movie, we learn that Jayne Mansfield was a violinist and pianist. She always wanted to perform at Carnegie Hall. For Tribeca, the movie screened at Carnegie, so in a way, Jayne got her wish.
The film went into limited theatrical release June 20, 2025 and then was released on HBOmax where it is currently available for streaming:
