The Bicycle Film Festival is circling through September 24-27. This is their 26th year. The festival was started and is still run by Brendt Barbur, who was inspired after being hit by a bus while riding his bike.
The Opening Night Reception will be a talk and presentation by founder Brendt Barbur. He will show and discuss Art and History, Punk, Hip Hop, Films, Bicycles, and Surfing. This takes place at Pilgrim Surf in Brooklyn from 6-9pm.
On Friday, September 25 from 8-11pm, the Bicycle Film Festival Party takes place at King Kog also in Brooklyn.
Saturday starts out with Program 1: Cycles of Resilience. Prior to the showcase, there will be a ride along starting at 10am. The Black History Social Ride will start at the Seneca Village Site in Central Park. It is West 85th Street and Central Park West on the Upper West Side. Participants will ride to Ukrainian National Home in the East Village.
The showcase will consist of The Cycle, a 15 minute short from India. It will be followed by Cycles of Resilience, a 60 minute feature from Director Ya'Ke Smith. This film is about Black History Bike Ride's 6th annual Juneteenth Ride in Austin.
These films will be followed by a panel discussion on preserving black voices through cycling and community.
