CMJ Music Marathon Gets Fresh with YouTube

(released 10/19/2014)

CMJ Music Marathon held annually for 34 years will commence October 21-25, 2014. Music industry players, and hopefuls meld in panels, parties, and sessions of performances. This year's festival is launching a best of the fest multi-channel network of musical acts in collaboration with Fresh Rights LLC, a certified YouTube company. Selected acts will be offered monetization of their music in this new platform that will use YouTube as a homebase for the multi-channel network.

"There is a legacy of greatness with CMJ performers.  Fresh Rights looks to help CMJ take advantage of that in a way not done before and help the artists make serious money while getting them exposure through YouTube," said Michael Galluppo, CEO of Fresh Rights. "Artists' live performances and recorded content are constantly being uploaded to YouTube with no money getting back to them for its use. By claiming that content on behalf of the artists and getting them paid for its use, Fresh Rights makes sure that artists are in a place to continue making music while allowing users to share and distribute their music for free.  That's just where it starts, as there is so much more you can do with a network of this much talent. We couldn't be more excited to be connected with CMJ," says Galluppo.

Matt McDonald, SVP of Artists & Events at CMJ said, "Our partnership with Fresh Rights allows us to build relationships with artists way beyond the conference and is a big part of our digital strategy going forward."

The festival will be headquartered at The Judson Memorial Church, 55 Washington Square South. The conference panels, speakers, mentoring, Legal CLE/CPE events, and College Day will be held at New York University Kimmel Center, a block east of the church. Look for a 4th floor Registrants Lounge in the Eisner & Lubin Auditorium to recharge during the festival. There are 80 venues throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn hosting performances. The CMJ Marathon site has a map to help navigate your venue of choice. The festival has teamed with Spotify App "Supper" to help you locate places to eat and drink near your prefered performance venue based on your mood.

Search for CMJ Music Marathon in your App Store. This free download will give you even more details of performers, conferences, music sessions, and a personal music recommender based on your choices. The station spotlight allows you to flip through the states and listen to college and non-commercial radio. This app also has the best lay-out for navigating the sessions: social media maven how-to tips, touring on the road, feminism, how to hire an intern, working with new film clients, and a crash course in artists management and days more. This application will also allow you to register and have your festival badge waiting for you at will call.

The festival is taking a cross section of technology and applying the tools to further define the landscape of the music industry future. Bringing the technology and the musicians together in an agreeable monetized format is still being established. Content creators of all digital transmissions are finding ways to adapt to the evolution of entertainment. The CMJ Music Marathon seems posed to grow with the times.
