Silent Clowns Presents Hal Roach Studios Classics

(released 7/11/2019)

Domestic Disturbances (courtesy of "The Lot of Fun") is screening July 13 at 2:30p.m. at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, as part of The Silent Clown Film Series. Conceived in 1997, The Silent Film Series is a monthly, year-round showing of silent films. Live musical film accompaniment is part of the experience.

The Hal Roach Studios was known as "The Lot of Fun" and also known for creating a style in silent film where everyday foibles and frustrations were magnified. A PAIR OF TIGHTS, UNACCUSTOMED AS WE ARE, MOVIE NIGHT and SATURDAY LESSON are the studio's summation as it transitioned its comic focus to the new sound era of the medium. Hal Roach and his studio produced OUR GANG which later became rebranded and sold to television as The Little Rascals in 1942. This made Hal Roach one of the first producers of film to venture into television.

Held in the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center, Bruno Walter Auditorium, the screenings are for all ages and are fully wheelchair accessible. The Saturday 2:30p.m. screening is free to attend on a first come first serve basis. Tickets will be distributed to the line that forms one hour before screen time. No saving seats, no reservations, one ticket per person in line. This is a general admission seating event. For questions or more details, call the library at 212-642-0142.
