Anne del Castillo Named NYC Film Commissioner

Congratulations to Anne del Castillo, Commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment. Today, Mayor de Blasio appointed Anne del Castillo as Commissioner.  del Castillo has served as General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer of MOME since 2015. The newly appointed commissioner has helped to structure and advance several workforce and diversity initiatives and will continue to amplify and strengthen the city's media and entertainment economy and have it reflect the diversity of New York City.

"Media and entertainment are central to New York City's economy and identity. Anne has the vision and experience to continue to strengthen the industry during this time of unprecedented growth and change," said Mayor de Blasio. "Her commitment to diversifying our entertainment sector and piloting innovative programs will ensure New York continues to be the media capital of the world."

Look for Commissioner del Castillo to lead the admistration's effort to capitalize on the augmented reality and virtual reality industries. The commissioner plans outreach to the advertising industry to help foster career paths for all New Yorkers. Finally, oversight of the Office of Nightlife is also in her domain to ensure the sustainable development of nightlife in New York City.

Anne del Castillo is a native New Yorker, has produced award winning documentary work for PBS series POV, secured millions annually in grants and contracts, negotiated partnerships with Netflix and theatrical distributors to maximize distribution opportunities for independent documentaries. Before her American Documentary tenure, del Castillo served as Associate Director for the Austin Film Society overseeing administration of the Texas Filmmakers Production Fund, advocated for media arts panel at City of Austin’s Arts Commission, and part of initial task force that led to development of Austin Studios.
