Dance on Camera Festival is February 3-7

The 45th annual Dance on Camera Festival will be February 3-7, 2017 at Lincoln Center. The platform serves filmmakers, dancers, and choreographers through storytelling. Feature length documentary as well as narrative films and short films will screen. Look for panels with filmmakers, special events that engage the community, and students programs. The festival plans to provide access to media and art installations as well. The festival was inaugurated in 1971 and deemed the "mother" of dance film festivals.

The Dance on Camera Festival will open with Anatomy of a Male Ballet Dancer. The film captures the life and career of 20 year veteran of the American Ballet Theatre as of 2017, Marcelo Gomes. Gomes will appear in person to kick off the festival. Director Jonathan Demme's theatrical debut of Justin Timberlake and the Tennessee Kids will happen on Saturday evening. A double bill with Martha Graham: A Dancer's World celebrating 60 years and a new restoration of Crises documenting Merce Cunningham are earlier in the day.

Bare Feet in NYC with Mickela Mallozzi is a co-production with NYC Media. The show's host Mickela Mallozzi combines her passion of dance and travel and has received an Emmy award for her work. Mallozzi's experience documenting in the five boroughs will be the theme of a panel on Friday, February 3 at 5 pm.

An art exhibit by photography husband and wife team NYC Dance Project will aim to express the magic and athleticism of dancers through their photographs. Ken Browar and Deborah Ory are the best selling authors of The Art of Movement. The book received International Photography Award for best book 2016. The Furman Gallery will house the collection of images Friday, February 3 - Wednesday, February 15.

Keynote Address and Emerging Curricula on Dance on Camera will be held Monday, February 6 at 11 a.m. at the Walter Reade Theater. Options of study specific for new dance filmmakers and Dance on Camera community is described in this gathering of professors and administrators of these unique programs.
