New Plaza Cinema Relocates For the Summer

(released 6/12/2026)

New Plaza Cinema sure is the little movie theater that could. It originated out of the need for a cinema on the Upper West Side after Lincoln Plaza Cinemas closed down years ago. It found itself in the St. Paul & St. Andrew United Methodist Church on 86th for a short time. It has had a successful home at Macaulay Honors College on 67th, but they are temporarily kicked out because that space is being renovated over the next few months.

They have found a space to use for the time being. New Plaza Cinema will be located in the lower level of the Museum of Arts and Design from now through August.

They will be there every Saturday starting next weekend June 20th. Today and tonight though, Friday, June 12th, they will be doing a soft opening.

Their schedule is here:

11:30am - The Christophers
1:45pm - Two Pianos
4:15pm - Rebel with a Clause (Q&A with Director Brandt Johnson and film subject and Upper West Star Ellen Jovin)
6:50pm - Taxi Driver

The Museum of Art and Design and New Plaza Cinema are located at 2 Columbus Circle in Manhattan.
