On June 6th, Ann M. Martin's book Rain Reign came to life. The children's book from 2014 was adapted by Erika Burke Rossa and held its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival. Rain Reign was also directed by Burke Rossa.
Rose is a neurodivergent middle schooler, obsessed with homonyms and following the rules, who lives in a small rural town with her troubled single dad (Jeremy Sisto). Rose struggles to make friends at school, so when he brings home a lost dog one rainy night, she soon becomes entirely devoted and names her Rain (like the weather, or like a queen, or like what you'd put on a horse). When Rain goes missing in a landmark storm, Rose sets out with her uncle (Paul Rudd) on a search to find her.
Rain Reign was a Clueless reunion of sorts. This is the first film together for Rudd and Sisto since Clueless. This is also the first time Paul Rudd has worked with his wife Julie Rudd, née Yaeger, who met working on that film. Julie was working in the PR office of Clueless and on Rain Reign, she is a producer.
The premiere took place at SVA Theatre and was followed by a screening on June 7 at Village East. There is a sold out show at Village East on June 11 and a Sunday, June 14 screening that still has tickets available as of today, June 8.
