Clint Bentley directs actor Joel Edgerton in a moving story of an ordinary life. Joel Edgerton plays Robert Grainier, an ordinary man who works the forests of the Pacific Northwest, working on the land, helping to create a new world at the turn of the 20th century.
The film is an adaptation of the novella of the same name by author Denis Johnson. The script for the film was co-written by Bentley and Greg Kwedar. The story shows the good and the bad of populating and industry. The story also shows the intimate love between Robert and his wife Gladys played by Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones, family and loss. In the film, we get to experience the deep life that Robert lived.
The film captures a time and place that are now long gone. The film also stars Academy Award nominees William H. Macy and Kerry Condon. Also appearing in Train Dreams are Nathaniel Arcand, Alfred Hsing, and Will Patton as the narrator.
The film will be released in select theaters on November 7, 2025 and will stream on Netflix starting November 21, 2025. Watch the official trailer here:
