On May 9, 2025 Governor Hochul signed FY 2026 New York State Budget. This budget contains a new initiative and enhancements to the NYS Film Tax Credit Programs. 

Independent projects can access dedicated tax credits with an accelerated payout schedule. Incentives will encourage recurring business and multiple productions. Musical scoring will be incentivized as well. The film tax credit programs are also being extended from 2034 to 2036.
