Tribeca: BRATS Premiere

(released 6/14/2024)

BRATS is a new feature length documentary that premiered at the Tribeca Festival on Friday, June 7 and began streaming on HULU on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Andrew McCarthy is both writer and director of this documentary film.  McCarthy is one of the actors that rose to fame in the coming-of-age films during the eighties like St. Elmo's Fire, Less than Zero, and Pretty in Pink. New York Magazine first named the circle of actors from these popular films "BRAT PACK" in 1985.

ABC News Studios in partnership with NEON and Network Entertainment announced the film BRATS in January 2024 as a film that would explore the cultural phenomenon of these coming-of-age films and their stars. Director and Brat Packer Andrew McCarthy wrote the New York Times best selling memoir "Brat: An 80's Story" to answer the question: What did it mean to be part of the Brat Pack?

"The Brat Pack has cast a long shadow over my life and career," said McCarthy. "After all these years, I was curious to see how it had affected my fellow Brat Pack members. What I found was surprising and liberating."

McCarthy meets up with some of the stars of these treasured films including, Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, John Cryer, Leah Thompson, and Timothy Hutton. He also interviews key members of production including directors, casting directors, screenwriters and producers. In the documentary, he is able to sit down with David Blum the writer who coined the term Brat Pack in the 1985 New York Magazine cover story as well.

BRATS reveals how the label caused a frenzy and impacted each of them, personally and professionally.
