DOIN'IT IN THE PARK: PICK-UP BASKETBALL NYC is screening on Friday, August 28th at the Maysles Documentary Center (343 Malcolm X Blvd. New York, NY, 10027). Doin' It In The Park explores the history, culture and social impact of New York's summer "b-ball" scene, also known as "pick-up ball" and "playground basketball."
This debut documentary by co-directors Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau uses filmmaking to show Pick-Up Basketball is a way of life. The duo of filmmakers visited 180 courts (NYC has over 700 outdoor courts) and carried cameras and a ball in their backpacks, mostly riding bikes to see different courts in the boroughs.
