Godzilla Minus Zero World Premiere at NYFF64
(released Tuesday, August 4, 2026)
By Kimberly Burke

Film at Lincoln Center announced Takashi Yamazaki's Godzilla Minus Zero will hold its world premiere as the Spotlight Gala selection at the New York Film Festival on September 26th, the festival's second night.

In 2023, Yamazaki brought to the world Godzilla Minus One, a new look at the classic Godzilla franchise. Coming from a visual effects background, Yamazaki put his talents and leadership on display. That film, which garnered him an Oscar™ for Best Visual Effects, is possibly the best looking Godzilla to date. Let's see what he has in store for us this time.

From a release, "Godzilla Minus Zero picks up in 1949, two years after the tumultuous events of Godzilla Minus One, and continues the story of the Shikishima family as they face an all-new calamity. An experience that demands the big screen, featuring even more astounding effects choreography than its predecessor, Godzilla Minus Zero cranks up the terror while always keeping its post-WWII Japan narrative at human eye level."

"It is truly an honor to introduce our film to a global audience for the first time in a place of such history and prestige," said director Yamazaki. "I am filled with both awe and excitement to see how far the power of Japan’s Godzilla can terrify audiences around the world, and whether they will resonate with what lies beyond that fear."

This is the 64th New York Film Festival and runs September 25th through October 12th. Tickets go on sale August 31st on a staggered release depending on the level of membership at FLC. Tickets go on sale to the public on September 15th.
