Busy Week of Film Production in NYC
(released Sunday, May 17, 2026)
By Douglas Lorah

This past week, film productions were making big splashes in the city. A Quiet Place 3 started filming on Sunday, May 10th in Chinatown. They blocked part of the streets around the Manhattan Bridge. It happened to be Mother's Day, so that caused a little uproar amongst the locals.

Then this weekend on the 16th and 17th, The Gilded Age blocked parts of the Financial District for a late 1800s parade. While not as big a production, we also saw Our Friends & Neighbors shooting in FiDi on Thursday the 14th.

Paramount's A Quiet Place 3 is being directed by John Krasinski. Technically, it's the fourth installment in the series, but A Quiet Place: Day One goes back and tells what happened in New York City at the beginning of the original alien invasion. Krasinski co-wrote and produced that piece. The original and sequel A Quiet Place 1 and 2 were co-written by Krasinski, directed by him, and he also acted in them. He won't be acting in 3, although his wife Emily Blunt, a lead in films 1 & 2, will be back as lead in 3 alongside Cillian Murphy, who was seen in A Quiet Place 2.

The Mother's Day filming that took place in Chinatown had hundreds of extras which included panicking crowds, police officers, and military personnel in bus transports and in Humvees with 50 cals. There was even an "animal handler" feeding pigeons to keep the birds in the background and then fly away during the action.

Mid-week, Apple TV+ was working on Your Friends & Neighbors in the Financial District. Actor Hoon Lee was seen walking on the sidewalk while having a conversation on the phone. Lee plays Barney Choi, friend of Coop played by Jon Hamm.

Capping off this weekend, HBO's The Gilded Age completely shut down streets in FiDi. Utilizing two iconic buildings, the Seligman Building (also formerly Lehman Brothers) and the Delmonico's Building, they turned back the clock to the late 1800's and early 1900's. There were hundreds of background players in period attire. They lined the streets, were waving flags from balconies, and throwing ticker tape from windows. This was all for a parade with more extras dressed as firemen, soldiers, band members, and military and political dignitaries with top hats being pulled in horse-drawn carriages. There were vendors selling fresh roasted peanuts and even a cart selling 5 cent beer.

If you're looking to catch more of these productions, their "names" on the Film Shoot signs are: A Quiet Place 3 = Little Falls, Your Friends & Neighbors = $lip, and The Gilded Age is simply TGA. You can get the latest filming locations by following OLV.

This is why people were upset. The traffic on Mother's Day backed up Canal.
