Queens World Film Festival is March 15-25

The Queens World Film Festival is March 15-25, 2018 spanning 11 days. Opening Night will take place at the Museum of Moving Image and include a welcome from festival directors Don Cato and Katha Cato, 2018 Spirit of Queens Honorees Jan Oxenberg and Vincent Gagliostro and music by Michael Soloway.  Screenings will be in the Redstone Theater and themed Emotional Punch: A film sampler of what is to come at the 8th annual Queens World Film Festival.

Films in the festival are programmed into thematic blocks to encourage networking and dialogue among patrons and filmmakers around topics of interest. The film screening blocks will be presented at The Museum of Moving Image Redstone and Bartos Theaters as well as the Kaufman Astoria Studios Zukor screening room. Some of the themes include:

Kicking It (how to get the monkey off your back)

We The People (stories of activism)
Nothing But Web
Music Music Music

Family Friendly
Iran Mon Amour (Iran underground cinema)
Out and About (LGBTQ Friday)
Local Express (films from the 5 boroughs)

Additionally, informative sessions are scheduled for Monday, March 19 to meet the team from the New York State Governor's Office of Motion Picture and Television Development for a discussion on producing in New York State, tax credits, location scouting, finding stages, crew and more. The event starts at 7p.m. and will be held in the Zukor Theater on 35th Avenue and 35th Street in Astoria. Following the Governor's office presentation, the Director of Crowdfunding at Seed & Spark Christina Raia teaches the class Crowdfunding to Build Independence with a focus on examples of four successful crowdfunding campaigns.  It will be held in the same Zukor Theater at 8p.m.
