The Color of Comedy at the Moving Image

Museum of the Moving Image presents with the Black Filmmaker Foundation The Color of Comedy on February 6, 2016 and will explore the crossroads of comedy and race. An afternoon screening and forum of comedians who will discuss how the artistic tool of comedy is used to translate social issues.

A Time for Laughter: A Look at Negro Humor in America will screen 1:00p.m.-2:30p.m. The 1967 ABC TV special is provided as a courtesy of Harry Belafonte Enterprises and the Paley Center of Media. The cast is historic: Dick Gregory, Redd Foxx, George Kirby, Moms Mabley, Pigmeat Markhan, Godfrey Cambridge, and a young Richard Pryor. Reflective of the social change of civil rights, the show is an example for discourse.

The Forum: Comedians of Color will commence 3-5p.m. A multicultural group of comedians will be introduced by video clip of their work with humor and society will be topics of live talks.
