The People's Film Festival announced that 13 Independent Filmmakers will open the 13th Annual festival to celebrate 13 years. Opening Thursday, May 30, 2024 in Harlem, NY at the AMC Magic Johnson Theater, the evening will be hosted by Supermodel LuSierra, an award winning Runaway/Pagent Coach. The welcoming address will be given by Harlem's own, New York State Senator Cordell Cleare from New York's 30th State Senate district.

"The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s was a time of unprecedented artistic achievement, creativity, and cultural significance", says Veronica Keitt, founder of The People's Film Festival, "and now, in the 21st century, that spirit of creativity and innovation continues to thrive in this historic neighborhood today."

The 13 independent filmmakers featured - 10 who are New Yorkers, 7 of which call Harlem home, bring their own unique voice and perspective to the cinematic landscape. Like their predecessors during the Harlem Renaissance, they are pushing boundaries, challenging norms, and telling stories that resonate deeply on a human level.

The festival runs May 30 - June 1, 2024. The program includes 45 films from around the world, 360 VR films, gaming, workshops, panels, afterparties and The People's Awards.

On Saturday, June 1 at 4:30pm, a film written and directed by Marusya Bociurkiw, will close the 13th Annual People's Film Festival at the AMC Magic Johnson Theater. "ANALOGUE RESOLUTION: How Feminist Media Changed THE WORLD" is a feature film documentary that traces the rise and fall of analogue feminist communications that preceded the MeToo era. Storytellers from the 1970s to 1990s took hold documenting everything from violence towards women to how to insert a diaphragm.
