NY Sweeps Docs Category at Student Academy Awards

The 50th Student Academy Awards were presented at a ceremony at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, October 24th.

College level students enter and compete in the following four categories: Animation, Documentary, Narrative, and Alternative/Experimental.  Three winners are picked from each, except for Experimental, which has one winner.

The Documentary category was completely swept by New York students. Taking the Gold in Documentary is "Wings of Dust" by Giorgio Ghiotto of NYU. Silver went to "Duet" by Lyuwei Chen, also of NYU and taking Bronze was "Hasta Encontrarios (Till We Find Them)" by Jean Chapiro of Columbia.

The other category winners are listed below:

Animation
Gold: "Boom" - Gabriel Augerai, Romain Augier & Yannick Jacquin, École des Nouvelles Images, France
Silver: "Diplomatie de l'Éclipse" - César Luton, Achille Pasquier & Clémence Bailly, MoPA 3D Animation School, France
Bronze: "Mum's Spaghetti" - Lisa Kenney, National Film and Television School, United Kingdom

Narrative
Gold: "Invisible Border" - Mark Gerstorfer, Filmakademie Wien, Austria
Silver: "Revisited" - Iain Aigin Stronach Forbes, Den Norske Filmskolen, Norway
Bronze: "Istina (Truth)" - Tamara Denic, Hamburg Media School, Germany

Experimental/Alternative
Gold: "Skin" - Leo Behrens, American Film Institute

All of the winning films are eligible to compete in the 2023 Oscars in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, or Documentary Short Film categories.
