ColdPlay played for a crowd of hundreds at the Hunter’s Point Oval with the Manhattan skyline setting their stage. The Empire State building was lit in red, white, and blue as the sun set. This was a pre-taping for NBC's Macy's Fourth of July celebration that will be broadcast on Sunday, July 4th.

Soundcheck started just after 6p.m. The band played through a few songs and tested the levels. The small crowd that had gathered sang back their lyrics in delight to the band. Chris Martin finished the soundcheck set by proclaiming the band was coming back, but we're going to "go get properly dressed" for the performance that would be taped for broadcast.

The band returned after 8:30p.m. and the skyline was just turning orange in places as the sun was setting. They informed the crowd that they would play through the set once and then again a second time, both to be taped by the cameras. They played the set once. Then the sun was nearly visible in the darkening sky as the Manhattan-lit skyline was ever more present in the background of the stage. By the final song of the second set, the river between Long Island City, Queens and Manhattan’s east side was being splashed with fireworks in the sky.

Black Pumas, One Republic, Reba McEntire, and Coldplay are scheduled to perform in the 45th annual "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular". The show will broadcast Sunday, July 4th at 8/7c on NBC with an hourlong encore presentation at 10p.m.

The show will be produced by Brad Lachman Productions with Brad Lachman serving as executive producer. Bill Bracken is co-executive producer. Lachman's credits include the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade," "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" and "NBC's 90th Anniversary Special," in addition to "Michael Bublé's Christmas Special" for five holiday seasons.
